Smart Temperature & Humidity Sensing with BLE Umbrella Coverage

Legacy Approach

Deploying a large number of temperature and humidity (T/H) sensors across extensive facilities such as warehouses, hangars, storage zones, cold rooms, and operational areas traditionally relies on wired installations. However, wired solutions are no longer practical in environments where installation work involves drilling, cabling, dust generation, and physical disruption. Additionally, frequent sensor relocation makes wired systems inefficient and costly.

AFKAR DIGITAL Smart Sensing Solution

AFKAR DIGITAL has engineered an advanced, dynamic sensing solution optimized for large and sensitive environments by leveraging Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) wireless technology.

The solution consists of BLE Sensors, BLE Gateways, and a centralized Software Platform, offering the following capabilities:

Key Features

  • Wireless BLE Temperature & Humidity Sensors:
Sensors can be deployed without wiring, eliminating drilling, cabling, and dust ideal for sensitive environments such as pharmaceutical facilities and cold storage rooms.
  • Long Battery Life:
BLE sensors operate for more than 3 years on a single battery, minimizing maintenance requirements.
  • BLE Coverage Umbrella:
Gateways create BLE coverage zones with a radius of 50 100 meters in open spaces. Any sensor within this BLE Umbrella is automatically detected by the gateway.
  • Redundant Data Reception:
Sensor broadcasts can be received by multiple gateways simultaneously, providing built‑in redundancy for mission‑critical applications.
  • Reliable Data Forwarding:
Gateways collect BLE sensor data and transmit it to the Software Platform over the network.
  • Offline Data Logging:
In the absence of network connectivity, gateways function as data loggers, storing sensor readings for extended periods (days to months).
  • Centralized Monitoring & Alerts:
The Software Platform continuously monitors sensor data and triggers alerts upon detecting abnormal conditions.

Effortless Sensor Relocation

When a sensor needs to be moved, it can simply be placed in the new location and renamed within the Software Platform. No additional configuration or installation work is required.

Real‑Time Vehicle Authorization Using Employee Cards & Smart RFID Readers

Legacy Approach

Large facilities often operate numerous vehicles and equipment such as forklifts, manlifts, and hangar doors that require controlled access at all times. Since not all employees are authorized to operate every asset, traditional standalone RFID readers installed directly on equipment create operational inefficiencies.

With legacy systems, administrators must physically travel to the equipment s location to grant authorization whenever an employee requests access. This results in significant time loss, increased manpower requirements, and reduced operational efficiency.

AFKAR DIGITAL Smart RFID Solution

Given that most work areas are fully covered by Wi‑Fi, deploying Online Smart RFID Readers provides a far more efficient and scalable authorization method.

AFKAR DIGITAL has developed an advanced Smart RFID Reader that connects to the HUDHUD Software Platform via 4G or Wi‑Fi networks.

Key Capabilities

  • Centralized Employee Database
Employee RFID IDs and names are securely stored within the system for real‑time validation.
  • Instant Authorization Requests
When an employee taps their RFID card on a Smart Reader, the device immediately sends a request to the system and notifies the administrator.
  • Automated Eligibility Verification
    The system displays:
    • The vehicle or equipment being requested
    • The employee s identity
    • Whether the employee is authorized to operate the requested asset
The administrator can then approve or reject the request with a single action.
  • Comprehensive Activity Logging
The system records authorization times, vehicle movement, and stop events for full traceability and audit purposes.
  • Online & Offline Operation
Each Smart RFID Reader contains a Master Authorization List for designated admin staff, enabling offline approvals when network connectivity is unavailable. This ensures uninterrupted operations.

Overall Benefits

The Online Smart RFID System significantly reduces administrative workload and eliminates unnecessary travel. It delivers:

  • Faster authorization workflows
  • Reduced manpower requirements
  • High mobility and operational flexibility
  • Accurate, real‑time tracking of vehicle usage
  • Reliable online and offline functionality

Energy-Saving in A/C Systems
Energy Cost‑Cutting Achievements in A/C Systems Using AFKAR DIGITAL Energy‑Saving Solutions

Smart Control of A/C Operation

Say goodbye to air conditioners running unnecessarily during non-working hours or holidays—intelligent control ensures energy is used only when needed.

Automated Lighting and Cooling Based on Occupancy

Lights and A/C units are automatically switched ON or OFF by detecting employee presence in offices using technologies such as:

  • iBeacon
  • Presence detection sensors
  • RFID access cards

showcase-01: Switching OFF A/C Units Outside Working Hours

In a standard office setup equipped with 5 ducted split air conditioning units, cooling was only required during official working hours. However, the units were previously left running continuously - even during nights and weekends - leading to unnecessary energy consumption and inflated electricity bills.

By implementing smart control to ensure the A/C units operate only when needed, the monthly savings reached approximately **JD1200 (~$1700).

Showcase-02: Smart Temperature-Controlled A/C in a Typical Storage Room

During the winter season, a wireless temperature sensor was used to automate the operation of a heating-mode air conditioner. The system was configured to:
** Activate heating: when the temperature drops below 17°C
** Deactivate heating: when the temperature exceeds 19°C

This setup ensures the A/C unit remains off when the room temperature stays within the desired range, avoiding unnecessary energy consumption.
Estimated monthly savings: ~JD75 (~$100)

Showcase-03: Automatically Switching Off A/C Units in Unoccupied Offices

Significant energy savings were achieved by implementing automated checks to identify and shut down air conditioning units in offices that are not in use. These checks begin daily after 4:00 PM and run at two-hour intervals.
Previously, A/C units were often left running unnecessarily, consuming electricity without benefit.

Estimated monthly savings: ~JD20 (~$30)

Showcase-04: Managing A/C Usage in Open Spaces

Open areas often lack proper control over air conditioning systems, leading to continuous operation and unnecessary energy consumption. By implementing smart management strategies, A/C units in these spaces can be monitored and regulated effectively.

This approach prevents wasted electricity and ensures cooling is only active when truly needed.

Estimated monthly savings: ~JD80 (~$120)

Showcase-05: Scheduled Shutdown of A/C Units During Night Shifts

This example highlights automated scheduling for a single zone containing approximately 15 air conditioning units. Since night shift hours vary across offices, the system performs automatic checks every two hours to detect vacant offices.

When staff leave, the corresponding A/C units are switched off, while units in occupied offices continue operating as needed.
Estimated monthly savings: ~JD300 (~$450)

Showcase-06: Integrating Human Presence Detection with A/C Control Systems

This example showcases an advanced approach to automating air conditioning based on actual human presence in office spaces.

Unlike conventional IR or ultrasonic motion sensors — which may inaccurately report absence when occupants are stationary — the human presence detector reliably identifies individuals even when they are seated or inactive.

Sensor data clearly reflects occupancy levels, averaging below 50%, allowing the system to deactivate A/C units in unoccupied areas with precision.

The correlation between presence detection and energy savings is remarkable.

Estimated overall savings: 30% to 70%, depending on office usage patterns.
